What is a 24-7 Prayer 'gathering' and why do we place such a strong emphasis on getting together?

24-7 Prayer will be hosting our 3rd Euopean gathering this year in Frankfurt Germany from 6th-9th October, but why are we encouraging everyone to come and join us? What is the big deal? If you haven't been to a 24-7 Gathering before these are perfectly legitimate questions

Lis left a comment on a blog post lasted week and asked just that: what is a 24-7 gathering and what do exactly happens, Is it to 'gather' and pray?

Well yes, I guess that's it in a nutshell, we gather from around the world and we pray… that's all it is... but at the same time there is so much to a 24-7 gathering than that.

Gathering

24-7 Prayer is a movement of people and communities intent on changing the world through prayer, mission and justice. The chances are if you're a visitor to this site you're part of that movement. There's no entry requirements no covenant form to sign and 24-7 doesn't expect anything from you. However we also talk about a 'shared DNA' within the movement and 24-7 are very relational. Which means that it does us good to get together every year or so to see and make friends, to hear stories about what Jesus is doing in our lives, an in our nations. We encourage one another, and it does us good to know that we are not alone - this is especially true in Europe where many communities struggle with feeling isolated. We share our highs and lows and stand with each other… and pray!

Prayer

Brian Heasley along with his wife Tracey has spent the last 6 years helping lead and establish mission and community in Ibiza. in the 24-7 Short 'Prayer as Mission' Brian says with absolute conviction: "The only thing that will change this place [Ibiza] is prayer, the only thing!". That's why we pray, it's all about reconciling the world to God through Christ and our small part is always in prayer - prayer on our knees in the prayer room and prayer on the streets as we are propelled from the room to the world with the heart of God. Yes 24-7 gatherings are all about prayer.
At this years gathering in Frankfurt we will give over a significant amount of time to prayer.

24-7 gatherings are about building family, which includes each and every reader of this website, and as we come together to our God we pray expectantly for his Kingdom to Come on Earth.
